Career in Defense forces - Indian NavyIndian Navy The Navy operates a vast fleet of destroyers, frigates, corvettes, submarines and other support vessels. The Navy conducts its operations through its four branches which are given below: Executive Branch This is the largest branch. It is responsible for the naval vessel's administrative management and its combat elements. They constitute the fighting team and are trained in various weapon systems. The Captain of a naval vessel is always an Executive Branch Officer. The Chief of Naval Staff also belongs to the Executive Branch. In the beginning of their service, all Executive Branch Officers undergo common training, both at sea and ashore, which gives an insight into all warfare disciplines like anti-submarine warfare, diving and mine warfare, gunnery and missiles, tactical warfare, navigation, logistics and administration, naval aviation, communications and electronic warfare. Naval Aviation Executive Officers joining Naval Aviation, become either pilots or navigators. They are trained on various aircraft and helicopters become airborne tactical coordinators of maritime warfare. Marine Engineering Branch This branch is responsible for keeping engineering equipment and propulsion systems for warships and submarines serviceable. Electrical Engineering Branch This branch deals with the maintenance and upkeep of all electrical and electronic systems including weapon systems, missiles, radar, and radio-communication systems. Education Branch This branch helps officers and men of the Navy update their technical knowledge and raise their academic level to enable them to imbibe technical training. Entry to the Career National Defense Academy (NDA) is the earliest route to enter the profession right after 10 plus 2. You have to be a science graduate (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) to appear in the written test. After that there are grueling rounds of interviews, group exercises and personality tests which one has to clear to gain an entry in the profession. Another option to gain an entry after graduation is through Combined Defense Services (CDS) exam which one has to clear.
