Career in Modeling

Modeling has become one of the most fascinating and most demanded careers among the youngsters of India. It the most lucrative profession as it attracts both male and female. With the expansion of media, there is a fabulous boost in the ad industry. Fashion industry has made modeling as an attractive career as it generate a wide variety and continuos demand for fresh and attractive faces in order to launch and promote variety of products .

No doubt, modeling is a glamorous field that offers opportunities to travel and meet various kinds of people. Adding to this it is one of the highest paying jobs. Apart from all the merits of the modeling, it also includes hard work, dedication and perseverance to be successful in this field. It is highly competitive and short lived career including high stress level, and irregular working hours. This also requires lots of stamina and patience. This is the only career in which education qualifications became secondary and physical attributes and personal qualities are given top priority. Modeling is classified into various groups like Ramp modeling, Television modeling, print modeling etc.





Education Qualifications

There is no specific qualification needed in this field. The first and the foremost step is to prepare a portfolio, it consists of a series of photographs taken by a professional photographer. Generally the height of female models should range between 5.7 feet to 6 feet and that of male models it should be above 6 feet. Then this porolio is showed to the advertising agency, model co-ordinating agency, fashion designer, etc. another way to get entered is to apply in a contest sponsored by magazines, cloth manufactures, cosmetic companies, or participating in a beauty pageants.

Training

There are no standards of training available in this field, models usually learn on their job only. The training is provided only by the ex-models who have set up training schools but such schools are restricted only to Delhi and Mumbai in India.

The training program generally includes make up, hair styling, beauty care, diet and exercise, walking and carrying you perfectly well. This program also includes guidance on how to make a contract, making the portfolio and other small technicalities.

Additional Skill set

The main skills require to became a model is having a good and healthy complexion & hair. Models should be tall and slim. Now a days size 0 (zero) is very demanding in this field. The most important quality that a model should have is to being a photogenic. Apart from all these, good knowledge of acting, having camera friendly attitude and great amount of self confidence will bring success in this field.







Career Opportunities

Modeling can be classified into following groups which have different career opportunities in their fields:

  • Print Modeling:
    Models normally pose for those photographs which is used in Press advertising, calendars, magazines, brochures, catalogues, Etc. models in this field have to work with ad agencies and Photographers.

  • Television Modeling:
    It includes modeling in front of the movie cameras, which is used for cinema, television commercials, video, internet etc. modeling in films and videos includes dancing or acting conducted on a given location.

  • Ramp or Cat walk Modeling / Live Modeling:
    It requires models to display the garments and accessories in front of the live audiences. This can be done on the ramp in a fashion show. Ramp Modeling requires long hours of practice, tremendous confidence and pious, and the models should have a walking style, good posture and appealing body language.

  • Show Room Modeling:
    According to the name suggests, it take place in show rooms. Models generally works for exporters, garments manufactures, etc to display the latest trends of fashion to the customers.

  • Advertising Modeling:
    It is the field where print and electronic media have equal importance. Models appear on press advertisements, posters, TV commercial and advertising films etc to promote a particular product. In this basic acting skills and photogenic face is must.
