Scholarships for Higher Education

The cost of education especially higher education is rising in India. While a number of banks and financial institutions offer educational loans, one must remember that loans have to be serviced with interest and hence if one can avail oneself of various scholarships offered for pursuing higher education in different streams, nothing like it. Following are a few schemes which one can avail of in one's pursuit of higher education:

Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation
The scholarship program is available for studies in pure sciences, applied sciences, engineering, information technology, management and business administration.

Eligibility
You can apply if you have an excellent academic background and extra curriculum activities to your credit. The scholarship is available for pursuing post graduation studies in top institutes in India and abroad. Upper age limit for availing of the scholarship is 30 years.

Amount
Scholarship to the extent of 50% of the total tuition fee upto a maximum of Rs. 10 lakh is offered per scholar.

Ministry of Tribal Affairs
Government of India offers 10 national/overseas scholarships for SC candidates in the field of Engineering, Technology and Sciences for two years (Masters Degree), 3 years (PHD) and one to six months (post Doctoral Research).

Eligibility
Bachelor Degree (minimum 50 percent and 2 years of relevant work experience). For Masters Degree, eligibility is two years teaching/professional experience or Mphil. For PHG, minimum of 5 years of teaching/professional experience is required. Income limits is Rs. 18000/- per month for all categories. Age limit applicable is 35 years.

Ministry of Environment and Forests
Government of India has the Pitambar Pant National Environment Fellowship for significant R&D contribution in the field of environment sciences and BP Pal National Environment Fellowship for significant contribution in the field of Biodiversity. Eligibility: Indian citizens, Age limit is 55 years.

Scholarship Amount:
A Fellowship of Rs. 26000/- PM is offered and a contingency grant of Rs. 100000/- PA is also offered.
