The Ftii Odyssey

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) is one institute which has been right in the centre of the Indian Cinema history. The institute is credited with nurturing and grooming the talent of the masters and icons of Indian cinema such as Subhash Ghai, Jaya Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah, Sanjay Leela Bhansali among others. The hostel rooms and corridors of the institute stand as a testimony to the imagination and vision of a great number of luminaries of Indian cinema who have been a part of the institute some time or the other.

The institute situated in Pune is endowed with a vast expanse of 21 acres of lush green environment which hone the creative talent of inmates. Established in 1960, at the erstwhile Prabhat studio, the institute has sustained the country's movie mania by providing an educational platform for aspiring film enthusiasts and students for their various experiences and endeavors.

Course Offered
Housing 120 students and over 300 faculty members in its 3 hostels- a girls hostel, boys hostel and a TV hostel for the television students, the institute offers various courses as given below:

Post Graduate Diplomas
The institute offers Post Graduate Diploma in various disciples such as Film Direction, Film Editing, Audiography, Cinematography, Acting and Art Direction.

Certificate Courses
Certificate courses offered by the institute are in the area of screen play writing, animation and computer graphics.

Television
Courses offered include direction, electronic cinematography and video editing.

Alumni
FTII has a strong alumni network. The acting course is currently being directed by well known actors such as Naseeruddin Shah and Ravi Vaswani. While Naseerudin Shas has redesigned the acting course, Vaswani is a coordinator of the course. Other disciplines being offered by the institute are also run by professionals and experts who also showcase their work as a part of the course curriculum.

FTII is also having a tie up with Centre International de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinemas et de Tele-vision (CILECT), an international association of world's major film and TV schools. The diploma films of FTII students are sent to film festivals all over the world and win many awards.

FTII has so far trained more than 1400 students in its diploma courses and over 6000 professionals in short term courses.
